Frequently Asked Questions

What is an electric exhaust cutout?

Race Ready Performance electric exhaust cutouts open your vehicles exhaust system for more horse power and better sound. This is done electronically with the push of a button.

What are the benefits of installing RRP electric exhaust cutouts?

You will gain more horse power and better sound out of your engine.

Why go with Race Ready Performance instead of the “other guys”?

Race Ready Performance has, by far, the best warranty in the business. We have produced a very high quality product at a very reasonable price since inception. Over the years we have had so few issues with our products that we introduced our RRP Lifetime Limited Warranty and have never looked back.

If I have a problem with my RRP electric cutouts, what should I do?

In the rare instance that you have an issue with an RRP product, you contact our office to receive an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number. You will then be instructed where to send your product for repair.

Are your products “Made in the USA”?

YES

Does the Race Ready Performance electric exhaust cutout have to be fully open or fully closed or can I use them partially open?

RRP’s electric cutouts use a gear reduction drive motor. That means that you can go fully open, fully closed, or anywhere in between. In other words, you can control them to get the exact sound you want.

Where do I install them?

You want to install them somewhere between the muffler and the exhaust manifold or header.

How does the Race Ready Performance remote control work?

The RRP electronic remote control is literally a plug and play component. It comes with a key-fob style controller that controls your RRP electric exhaust cutout. If you want to keep that clean look inside your vehicle and don’t want to mount a control switch or just don’t want to cut a hole in your dash, this is definitely the way to go AND it cuts your installation time by about half.

Does Race Ready Performance make a size that fits my needs?

RRP manufactures electric exhaust cutouts from 2 ½” all the way up to 5” for the big diesel guys.

What size do I need?

Measure the outside diameter of your exhaust pipe where you are going to install your RRP electric exhaust cutout.

What is a Y-pipe?

The Y-pipe in this instance is a “y” looking piece that is installed inline in your exhaust system. The electric exhaust cutout will then be bolted to the “leg” of the Y.

Do I need a single or dual exhaust cutout kit?

This depends on the vehicle. If your vehicle has a true dual exhaust system, then you will need the dual exhaust cutout kit. If you vehicle has a single exhaust system, you will need the single exhaust cutout kit. If your vehicle has a single exhaust system that then splits into a dual system, then you need to determine where you are going to mount your electric cutouts and that will determine if you need single or dual.

What is the difference between the single and dual kits?

Obviously you get two electric cutout valves instead of one but you also get a different wiring harness so that one switch controls both cutouts in the dual kit.

How long does a typical installation take?

Usually, the most time consuming part of the install is mounting the switch. Once that is done, you install the wiring harness which only has two connections and you then install the Y-pipe. Once that is done, you simply bolt on the cutout valve, plug it in, and you’re done. OR short answer, usually 1 ½-2 ½ hours for a typical install.  And if you go with the RRP remote control, you will cut your install time by about half.

Is it better to weld the Y-pipes in or use band clamps?

RRP manufactures both. It’s really a matter of personal preference. If you are a qualified welder and don’t ever expect to sell your vehicle or remove the system for any reason, that’s probably the way to go. However, with a clamp-in style system, it’s very easy to remove the whole assembly if you ever decide to do that and you don’t need a welder.
